Description:
This sword is a customer consignment piece. He purchased it from one of his Marine Corp Officer friends in the early 1970’s and has been stored in his gun cabinet since.
Origin: Philippines
Date: Late 19 Century
This original Filipino Fighting Sword, known as Talibong, is a rare and authentic piece from the Philippines. The blade is made of fire treaded steel with a single edge and the handle is made of high-quality wood. The Talibong Sword comes with the original leather sheath. It’s an original - not a reproduction, and its craftsmanship is a testament to the rich history and culture of the Philippines.
The Talibong was used mostly for combat purposes but occasionally doubled as a tool when needed for hunting and cutting up meat. This sword’s shape can cut through grass easily while hunting animals then slaughtering the game when caught. In well trained hands the Talibong is very formidable. It’s perfectly engineered for battle purposes to make thrusting and slashing easy to handle. The Talibong is one of the major bladed weapons used in the Pekiti Tirsia Kali fighting system from the Philippines.
* The wooden handle is installed high on the spine allowing the warrior to have a solid backswing and then driving it downward in an aggressive fashion toward the enemy. This design also protects the fingers from getting cut during an encounter.
* The heavy, hooked section of the handle was used so a warrior would not tire out easily during battles. Which makes it much easier to wield the Talibong as opposed to having to grab it tight during fighting
* The guard was designed to place a warrior’s thumb on the top of it to provide more leverage and power when stabbing and slashing. It extends 5/8” from both the spine and edge of the blade. The lower section of the guard has a slightly sharpened edge on it.
* The grip was designed with a grooved bevel toward the back to allow the ring and pinky fingers to sit “inside” of the handle for more comfort and leverage. Directly behind the bevel is a raised support element to help keep your grip tight on the handle.
* The blade is 20” long for a total length of 27”
This Filipino Talibong Fighting Sword is an original piece and not a reproduction and is in very good condition despite its age. The edge is very sharp and ready to be appreciated immediately. It comes with its original leather sheath with solid double stitching.
